The Experience

About the GM

Hey! I'm Daniel, your friendly nonbinary online GM. I have been GMing for seven years, mostly pathfinder but I have dabbled with DnD and Blades in the Dark, I love the community and dynamic collaborative storytelling that happens in TTRPGs and I am a sucker for a good nerve-wracking combat as well. I firmly believe that there is a table for anyone and I try to keep mine open, inclusive, and fun. I have introduced most of players to RPGs for the first time so I am well accustomed to newbies and delight in opening the doors to a magical new hobby with them. Creatively I have strong influences from WoT, Brennan Lee Mulligan, and absurdists like Vonnegut or Terry Pratchett.

Style

Stylistically I strive for an RP-focused campaign that holds space for some epic action set pieces. I like to work closely with my players to both understand what they want and to bring out the best in their characters. My campaigns are set in a living world where events never sit still. The game definitely leans towards being a sandbox but the world won't wait for the party to act. My relationship with the rules of the system can best be described by Captain Barbosa "they're more of guidelines". I often employ the rule of cool and am not afraid to make calls to allow for creativity and to keep the flow of play moving. In short, I try to deliver a whirlwind of great RP accented with exhilarating combats by working with my players to bring their characters to life.

The World

The world of Ister is recovering from a great cataclysm. An asteroid struck the planet over 1000 years ago decimating the advanced civilization that inhabited Ister. The land shattered and magic went wild. After centuries nations began to reform. The remnants of the old days still leave traces, however, ancient monuments that touch the sky, powerful artifacts beyond understanding, the most notable is the complete mixing of the ancestries across the face of Ister. The present condition of Ister is one of constant shifting, nations rise and fall trying to glimpse the power that came before. Meanwhile, threats of scale not fully realized brew across the world. A powerful Lich King with his undead army lurking in the north. A hole to the Abyss that spews forth creatures bent on the destruction of mortals. A stronghold of Hell set on an island at the heart of Ister. The Horde, a council of Dragons perched on their space station pulling strings. The chaos is far from over even if the ground has stopped bucking.

Expectations

I don't believe in any such thing as "The perfect player" but there are definitely people who don't fit at my table. In order to improve everyone's experience, I like to set some ground rules up-front.

I will ask you for some effort. You will get out what you put in and I view it as part of my job as GM to coax your innate creative brilliance out into the sunlight.

I will ask for your trust. At the table I am rooting for you, sometimes it can feel as though the GM is the enemy and this can lead to players arguing with the GM, just remember I am rooting for you and your characters and will always try to say yes to creative ideas. If I do say no it is important that you can accept that.

You should ask for consent. Any interparty conflict should be between the characters, not the players. Also any romances or actions that could drastically affect other players should be consented to by everyone involved beforehand

Your character shouldn't be a dick. It is fine to have broken hurting characters, or characters with dubious moral codes but if you find yourself defending a mean action by saying "it's what my character would do" your character is not acceptable.

I will not include any explicit sexual content. In general, my games are adult in theme and tone but I will not describe or play out any explicit sexual scenes. This includes a total ban on any kind of sexual misconduct overt or implied (ie, Sexual Assault, Pedophilia, or Necrophilia etc).

I will include some aspects of horror. There will be descriptions of combat that include some gore and I will set a decidedly creepy tone at times. I don't take it to an extreme but consider this general trigger warning.
